Everyday when I walk the dog there is a Cigar Shop I pass. I could cross over and go another way, but I take this route on purpose. Sometimes I take this route slow, so that I can do something taboo. Yes, it is true I love breathing deep those scents, it like standing in my Grandparents coat closet, the comfort of my grandfather's favorite cherry vanilla tobacco wrapping around me. And on another level it is my chance to do what I love, another taboo,shhh, Eavesdrop.
Why do I Eavesdrop ? Because it is like a Man's Salon, and they gather and laugh and talk. The people that go there Intrigue me, all kinds, men in overalls, men in sneakers, Suited men in fine clothes, retired men,Cooks, and lawyers, men in Cleveland Browns jackets. All ages and socioeconomic status, and religions. They laugh and tell stories.
I would love to go in, I would love to just sit and listen to them as they puff and talk. I think in a past life I must have spent time at a Saloon listening to men talk and spit. ( Let's be honest I don't think there's much demure Lady Activities in my past). Last Friday three men came out laughing and comparing Lists on Wrinkled folded pieces of paper. They were Arguing -goodhumoredly.I had to ask I was just too curious. It turns out that they have been keeping Lists of the Bush Failures, and trying to figure out which ones are High Crimes.
And the Lists were Long....Much longer than I thought they would be. So here you go....I am asking WHAT would be on your rumpled list and Would it be just a Failure , or High Crimes.It is just a list....And we know it is long- but maybe just put your TOP TEN ....and hell tell me What kind of cigar would you try ?....

Okay a very small confession...I did smoke cigars at one point in my life...yes, shocking and disgraceful...Tiparrillos- in highschool, I used to go to the Roller Rink on Thursday Nights and hang out back and smoke Tiparrillos, and I thought I was very cool...and all I can say is...well, it was the Seventies....and I was misinformed...and hell, it did effect my ability to get a date to my senior prom....phew...I have confessed and I feel better...
And my list : KATRINA...spying...Katrina....PLAMEGATE.....katrina...etc etc....

I'll have to give it some thought about what the most egregious crimes are; it is a target-rich environment. I had a thought the other day -- isn't it getting tiresome living in a country run by the Evil Forrest Gump?

Bush failures? (legion) ... easier to list Bush successes (zero, can't think of one)! With so many "specific" failures, I can't decide, so here are my "Top Three GENERAL Bush Failures": 1) he failed to win an election honestly, 2) he then failed to work with others, and 3) he continues to fail to "preserve, protect and defend the American citizens & our constitution".
Re: cigars, I must have been with Meldonna & Al Gore (who inhaled) ... I can still announce today I have never smoked ... cigars, cigarettes or tiparillos! D.K.
My top ten of his failures (as a president and human being) is making war illegally, making war illegally, etc. etc. and may the blood of our military and the Iraqi and Afghanistani civilians and the horror of the tortured be required of him in final judgement---which I hope comes soon.

Re: your senior prom confession. In 1969, my anti-war anti-establishment friends & I came up with an idea for an anti-prom. Hell, we weren't gonna get dates anyway. The anti-prom required no formal wear, no dates, no cheerleaders or football jocks allowed, just a good band & mucho comraderie. Cool teachers like Mr. Fox (yes, his real name) could even chapparone. Nice concept, huh? Never got off the ground, though ... lost in the haze of much non-cigar smoke. D.K.

We did have a small not-the-prom at a friend's house...chaperoned by Mom and Dad. But we still had a fun time doing skits and singing numbers -- this was WAY before karaoke, but the party was full of drama/choir/art types, and the host parents were way cool not 'hovering'.
Graduation itself was another story; that was our big Animal House Party! Oddly enough, the guy driving actually did the designated driver thing, way before it had a name, just out of habit. I ran with a diverse crowd, even back in '81. We were wild children, but we weren't mean. Ah, Jeez, we thought Reagan was bad. Talk about innocent youth!
Bush's biggest crime? It's ongoing, and I believe Hank Junior calls it a Family Tradition.

enigma, I was gonna put this under your Dana Reeve post, but thought it might be better here. My TV just spouted there are 25K cases of non-smoker lung cancer in the US each year AND 80% ARE WOMEN ! What is going on here? If it's 2nd hand smoke, why wouldn't men be just as suseptible? Sorry guys, but you're gonna have to continue shivering outside when you light up. D.K.
Hey. I actually thought of a Bush accomplishment. He got us more mangoes from India. All he had to give India in exchange were our nuclear secrets in blatant violation of international treaties and the further fury of Pakistan. I feel fruitier AND safer already.
I only smoked cigars briefly...when I quit smoking cigarettes. Cigars were so foul they cured me of wanting to ever smoke anything again.
DK: I actually feel guilty about this little smoking blog...now that Dana died. Yes, this is very concerning, and I will blog on it later this week...my grandmother died of Breast and Lung Cancer...and I think some stats are rising and that needs to be noted.
CRUEL ANIMAL: thanks for coming by, and I smoked Tiparrillos for one month in my senior Spring,,,shortlived....I did use to smoke cigarettes- I was a "social smoker" , about 5 day, but once I saw my grandmother coughing up blood- that was all it took. I was done for good. ( that was 20 years ago) I think Dana's Death is a messege- that Lung Cancer is on the rise in younger patients- women and we need to note that, and ask some hard questions...

I love the whole 'fly on the wall' concept: listening in to people's conversations figuring out who they are and where they came from and how they ended up here and why they think the way they do. Voyeurism, kind of.
My grandfather, what a character. He used to have a pipe, and inside the pipe he would have a cigar, a tall cigar too, that he would smoke through the pipe. We could never figure out what that was about. It was hilarious.
Failures: oh so many. Seems most have been touched upon here. Is the omnipresence of The Carlyle Group a 'failure' or a travesty?
