FATHERS DAY 2006

Being a Dad....

It is as simple as a warm hug on a cold night.
It is learning to ride a bike on a crooked sidewalk.
It is hot dogs dripping with mustard on a crisp fall day.
It is Friday movies and popcorn.
It is Star Bellied Sneetches and the Cat in the Hat.
It is finding the Perfect Pumpkin for Halloween at Craven's Farm.
It is Hotwheels in the Hallway and long races on Rainey days.
It is cookies and fresh crayons waiting to be shared.
It matters....
Everyday.

hi, enigma, it's good to see a new post from you...is that a Rockwell image?

Yup Rockwell....Hope all is well with you both...and that Summer is being good to you....

I love Norman Rockwell. Very good work - have you ever been to his museum in MA?

I do think that, however, that there is nothing altogether simple about fatherhood...but as I think your point is, it's the simple things that often matter most.

I do love Rockwell’s depiction of American life. He idealized it, of course; and didn't include as many ethnicities as make up our country - but I liked his take on things. Life may not always be like that - but it should - and that’s the point. Hope you are well, my dear. I have missed your commentary and insight.

I miss ya E!
And yes... daddies are very important. Sadly, and this is not true in the case of my father or my beloved Hubby, but some dads think that their "duty" ends at the moment of ejaculation.

Then again, tina, there's the dads who step in and are there for children not their own; just goes to show any guy can be a father -- it takes a hell of a man to be Daddy!

So HooRay for Dad!

ps...good to see you back, E

I wish all dads were like that--I can't help but think we would have a better world.

You trigger good memories, Enigma. My dad had to carefully explain why "fresh crayons" were not food, while we both experimented with smearing the chocolate chips from cookies on construction paper, resulting in smeary charcoal-like drawings. Glad to see you out & about! D.K.

Nicely said, enigma. Your post makes me want to go make chocolate chip cookies.

I can actually hear the Hot Wheels rolling across the floor even though I'm sitting here at work. And I can smell the crayons. Man, I love that fresh crayon smell.

Being a dad is the coolest thing in the world!

My father was not a "dad", he was the man who fathered me. Too bad too because I envied kids who had dad's who loved them.

INTERNATIONAL STRANGENESS DAY

Friday June 30th
Thanks Neil and Thumper...

Tim Robbins ( way cool dude...) is actually putting 1984 -the play- the production on college campuses this summer- and was talking about it on Craig Ferguson last night...I try to picture what George would have said about this fucking mess that we have right now...and yeah somehow I am really not suprised that he blew stuff up in his backyard....

So when is International Stangeness Day ?
at this point maybe it is everyday....
